John Deere Planter and Drill FAQs

What size tractor do I need for a John Deere planter?
It depends on the planter. The 1715 needs a 115 to 200 hp tractor, while DB planters list minimums from 235 hp up to 350 hp with a Category 4 drawbar.

What row units are available?
Depending on the model, ExactEmerge, MaxEmerge 5e or MaxEmerge 5 row units. The MP512 and MP516 use ExactEmerge row units with individual row hydraulic downforce.

Which planter suits small fields and narrow roads?
The 1745 is a compact design for small fields and narrow-road transport. It pivot-folds from the cab in about 40 seconds and works with older tractors that have lower hydraulic flow.

What size air carts does John Deere offer?
C-series air carts on our pages run from 350 to 850 bushels, in leading and trailing versions, with AccuRate stainless steel electric meters.

How do air drills show seed flow?
Many John Deere air drills use RelativeFlow blockage monitoring so you can see the flow of seed and fertilizer from the cab.
