Janet M. Koenig (1922 - 2017)

It is with mixed emotions we share the news of the passing of our mother and grandmother.

Janet M. Koenig, 94, was born in Bundaberg, Queensland, Australia, on December 5, 1922 to John J. & Margaret F. (Crawford) McDermott.  On March 7, 1944 she married Emerson P. Koenig.

Mr. and Mrs. Koenig were married in Australia while Emerson was assigned to the Pacific theater during World War II. Mrs. Koenig came to America in 1945 after her husband was wounded in the Battle of Biak and sent back to the U.S. for medical treatment. She willingly adopted the German ways of her new community and became a United States citizen in 1957. Her passions were family, flowers and music. She was a member of the United Methodist Church where she served as choir member and director for many years. Mr. and Mrs. Koenig were lifelong and active members of the American Red Cross.

Survivors include 11 children, 30 grandchildren, and 61 great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday September 8, 2017 at The Palazzo, Botkins.  The family asks that any memorials be directed to the American Red Cross or to Wilson Health Hospice Care.

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers
